CROSS-BORDER CLAMPDOWN ON CHRISTMAS DRINK DRIVING

PSNI Inspector John Miller, Garda Inspector Michael Harrison, and Donegal's Road Safety Officer Brian O’Donnell launched this year’s cross-border Christmas Drink Driving campaign at Lifford/Strabane border.

The Gardaí have again joined forces with the PSNI for their annual cross-border Christmas Drink Driving campaign on the N14 at Lifford/Strabane border.

Drivers can expect a significant increase on the mandatory alcohol testing checkpoints that are already conducted each month in Donegal.

Inspector Michael Harrison, who co-ordinated the campaign with PSNI Inspector John Miller, said: “Drivers continue to selfishly ignore all the advice that has been offered in relation to drink driving. Enforcement of the drink-driving legislation remains a major priority as part of our ongoing commitment to reducing road casualties.”

The campaign is backed by the Donegal Road Safety Working Group as part of their ongoing road safety awareness programme. Brian O’Donnell, Road Safety Officer said, “Leave your car at home and don’t risk your life and the lives of others. It’s not a question of if you will get caught drink driving, but when.”
